After less than two years our new Stearns & foster has developed the same hollows and we are again waking up with back aches.  MY wife one night slept with her head at the foot of the bed and didn’t have a back ache upon wakening.

Why would a top of the line mattress develop hollows in less than two years?

We had originally bought a Sealy but found the foam was so soft that if trying to get to the other side of the bed you had to climb over a mountain caused by the hollow left after lying on it for a short time, and it was too soft.  We bought the Stearns & foster as it was firmer and didn’t form such a deep hollow. We also bought new box springs with the mattress.

I really don’t want to spend another $1,200 for another new mattress, what can we do?

Indentations are common place in mattresses today.  Mattresses are designed to contour to the body and are not supposed to remain flat any longer.  By contouring to the body the mattress is providing better support kind of like a pair of shoes.  If the indentation is beyond 1.5″ inches deep though, the manufacturer can replace it under warranty.

If you believe it is deep enough to replace I would contact the retailer you purchased if from.  They can send someone out to do an inspection.  If that retailer is no longer in business you can contact Stearns and Foster directly at 1-866-233-3464.
