Support for a mattress without a box spring

From Judy -

We have a Beautyrest Capital ultraplush pillowtop mattress with a box spring.  Due to problems after a hip replacement, I cannot climb into a bed that high.  We would like to get rid of the box spring and need to know what we’d need to have, at a minimum, underneath the mattress to use it alone on our full-size antique wooden bed.  Would plywood work?

Hi Judy,

Plywood would work for a foundation or  you can use a multiple slat system.  Most mattress manufacturer’s, Simmons included, require either a full platform foundation or a minimum of 5 horizontal slats for support.  It would be best for you to contact Simmons directly to find out their specific warranty requirements and they can be found online at www.simmons.com or by calling them at 1-877-399-9397.
