Two Twin XL = King

September 30, 2009

From Rick -
I purchased two twin adj. beds (To make a King) from you a couple of years ago and am now wondering if I could purchase one king top mattress to set on top of the two adj. frames.
I think your beds are great and I think this will make it even better.

Hi Rick,
You should be fine as long as the adjustable bases are Twin extra long. They should measure 38 X 80 inches long.

Support Suggestion

September 29, 2009

From Debi -
I am concerned about sleeping on my side. The Akerman pillow top we have is to soft and hot, plus the pillow top seems not to spring back and when we get out of the bed there is dents for some time. Being tall and plump does not help I am sure.
Plush is the way to go,now I am not familiar with no springs. At the stores people were saying get ones that are a least 13 gauge wire. Do not want a rock to sleep on, for our hips and and lower back pains.
Let me know what you think about this.

Hi Debi,
If you do choose a mattress that has a coil (spring) system for support, I would agree that it should be at least a 13 gauge wire, or lower ( heavier) for lasting support. Changing to a springless mattress, such as the Sealy Springfree latex gives great support, and pressure relief, for comfortable side sleeping, without being overly soft. If you decide to stay with a traditional mattress, I would recommend getting out of the pillow top and in to a plush top or cushion firm. The issue with the Akerman series is that is has visco memory foam in it, which some people find retains heat. It may be just the pillow top that is warm for you, so I would not write off the Akerman entirely.
The body indentations that you are experiencing are always going to happen with a pillow top mattress, no matter what the manufacture. If you like the feeling of the soft top, my suggestion is to use a firmer mattress and add a latex, (not memory foam, Hot!) topper to it. That way, if it wears out, gets impressions, or your needs changed and you no longer want to use it, you have the option to stop using it, unlike a the pillow top that is attached to the mattress. With that being said, the Sealy Akerman cushion firm may work, or if you want something a little softer than the Akerman Plush. You may find that you do not need any additional padding on the plush. Whenever you change mattresses, it is important to give yourself at least 2 weeks to acclimate to the change, before deciding if it is going to work for you. If you have a chance to try the Sealy solid latex mattress at a local store, I do think that it is the best option for what you are looking for. I have a similar body type to how you described yourself, and that is what my husband and I sleep on, and it is very comfortable.

Matching Dunrobin and Featherstone

September 27, 2009

From Jui -
I saw on your website how sometimes mattresses in stores may have a different name. I recently went to a local mattress store to test out mattresses to see how they feel, yet couldn’t find any of the mattresses online on your website. If the mattress has another name could you give it to me?

-Simmons BeautySleep Dunrobin (eurotop) Queen
-Simmons BeautySleep Featherstone (Pillow Top) Queen

Both were found at the store-Mattress Giant in Houston, Texas

Hi Jui,
The Dunrobin is known as the Gettysburg on our website. After analyzing the specifications on the Featherstone, it appears to be the same as the Concorde on our site, but ours is listing a layer of memory foam that isn’t being advertised on the mattress giant website.

Macy’s Carried Away

September 26, 2009

From Barbara -
Hi, I saw a mattress at Macy’s called Carried Away. I was wondering what mattress is comparable on your web site?

Hi Barbara,
I have looked into your inquiry, and unfortunately, that mattress is exclusive to Macy’s. I do have a model by Stearns and Foster that is similar, it is the Robson Street, and is available in several different levels of comfort.

Mattress Recommendation for heavier people

September 25, 2009

From Maria -
Among the closeout models, with a reduced price, do you have a mattress that you can recomend for a person weighting 300 lbs. that will last at least 6 years?

Hi Maria,
I have looked into your request, and this is a difficult question to answer, as each person finds mattresses to vary in comfort. For a person around 300 lbs, I do recommend using a mattress by either Sealy or Stearns and Foster, because they use a tempered steel coil, which will hold up better over time, and give a longer life to the mattress. Both models do offer a 10 year warranty, but this indicates the mattress will be free of any defect for the 10 years, and not how long the mattress will last. That is also an individual point, some people are more sensitive to changes in their mattress and do not tolerate any deviation in the feeling over time, and need to replace their mattress sooner than others. For longevity, I recommend going with a firmer mattress and adding a memory foam or latex topper for comfort, rather than choosing a Pillowtop. That way, if the top wears out, or your needs change, you can alter the comfort as needed.

Any of the products that listed as get it fast can be delivered in 2 business days, with curb side delivery. If you can wait, I recommend using the free white glove delivery, which includes set up. This takes one to two weeks.

Discontinued Models

September 24, 2009

From Kerry -
I just looked at a Serta king-sized mattress set that is called “Celodon”. I can’t find it on your website. Is it a discontinued style? Please give me what information you have on this style.

Hi Kerry,
All of the mattresses that we sell are current models from the manufacturer, and not discontinued models. I am not finding any information for a mattress by the name that you gave; it may be a discontinued model. Unfortunately, they do not replace last year’s mattresses with an equivalent version for the New Year. My best suggestion is to choose something from a local retailer that is currently being made, and then call us with the name, and any other identifying information that you can. We can cross reference the model and tell you what price we are selling it for. Serta is very difficult to match, as they make hundreds of different mattresses under different names for each store. If you go to any of the major manufacturers website, they have an area to enter your zip code to locate stores in your area. You may try this at: www.serta.com, www.sealy.com, www.simmons.com and www.stearnsandfoster.com

Boswell at Costco

September 23, 2009

From Dennis -
I am interested in a Stearns & Foster mattress called the “Boswell’” that I saw in a store. Can you tell me which model on your website is comparable? Thank you.

Hi Dennis,

Thank you for contacting www.us-mattress.com
The Boswell is made exclusively for Costco and isn’t available through our site. A comparable model would be the LeMans Ultra Plush Euro Pillowtop
If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call by dialing 1 800 455 1052.

Firm Latex Mattress

September 22, 2009

From Dean -
I am stuck between choises of a spring free or the Simmons Exceptionale model. At my local store they did not have the Simmons so could not try it out. I’m concerned if I order one I might not like it. I prefer a firmer mattress and my wife a little softer. I also wake up with aches and pains. CAn you give me any feed back to help my decision. Thanks.

Hi Dean,
As far as quality goes, the Springfree is going to last longer and perform better than an innerspring mattress. If you want a mattress that isn’t extremely soft or firm, I can recommend the Sealy Springfree Garden Vine Plush as a good compromise mattress.

Furniture Galore: Memoires from Market

September 22, 2009

Viva Las Vegas. Bright Lights, flashy sites, and over the top spreads. Yes, it’s Market time, The Las Vegas Furniture Market that is. The Las Vegas Market is an international gathering of home furnishing companies of all levels, from furniture giant Ashley Furniture to your mom and pops shop serving small market niches. US-Mattress walked the showrooms in full force this past September to scope out the latest in mattresses, furniture, and bedding.

From cool new pillow technology to gorgeous bedding ensembles, the linens offering at Market did not disappoint. Many vendors are jumping on the “Go Green” wagon, offering an assortment of organic soft goods in luxurious cotton, wool, and bamboo. My personal favorite was Dream Fit’s Bamboo Sheets – sheets so soft you will never want to leave your bed. Silk bedding is another eco-friendly option. Lifestyle Designs out of Venice, California offers a beautiful assortment of hand-spun, luxurious silk bedding and pillows.

Another noticeable and noteworthy trend is the focus on health. With flues and viruses on the rise, consumers are looking for products that help keep a healthy home. Everloft will soon be offering an assortment of washable pillows to keep germs and bacteria to a minimum and comfort to a maximum.

Also, we are very excited about the new sheets and pillow cases from Stearns and Foster by Pacific Coast Feather. These sheets offer extreme comfort and durability while fitting the most difficult of mattress depths.

Vivid colors such as lime green, fuchsia, red, black, and white covered the walls of show room after show room. Chocolate and aqua, a trend from last season, is still going strong. Bright Rugs in an assortment of textures and colors also adorned the show rooms. Foreign Accents, The Contemporary Rug Source, has an alluring assortment of rugs in one-of-a-kind patterns in every color imaginable. Unique throw pillows with intricate detail and high-fashion style garnished sofas, chairs, and beds. Home Texco boasts hundreds of decorative pillows in varying shapes, sizes, fabrics, colors, and detail. Global Views also offers a variety of unique pillows and other accessories such as lamps, clocks, and mirrors.

While bright colors and modern lines continue to be popular, classic will always be in. Classic Concepts, a division of Classic Home, introduced a new bedding collection called Chandler Bedding. Crisp solids and pretty florals grace their luxurious quilts, duvets, curtains, and pillows.

The bottom line, no matter what your style or comfort specification may be, there is a product out there for you. Look for the new brands listed above debuting soon on US-Mattress.com. (Written by Cara Goggins, Assistant Buyer)
