Mattress Recommendation

July 1, 2009

From Steve -
I am trying to decide between a Beautyrest Lusaka Visco Plush and the Sealy Greenhurst Plush. I sleep on a 9 year old world class (but don’t know the name of it) that feels fairly firm and love it.

I sleep on a friends mattress about 40 nights a year which is a Sealy (but I don’t know the name of it) and it is comfortable too. I am upgrading from a queen bed to a king bed and want to make the right decision.

Which of the two listed is best…or do you have a different recommendation?

Hi Steve,
It depends on a couple of factors. First, if you’re planning on going with a queen size, the Simmons will be better due to the individually pocketed coil. Simmons designs their mattresses to provide excellent support as well as durability when 2 people are sleeping on a queen size whereas a Sealy can develop a slope towards the center. If you are going to go with a king size then either manufacturer is great.

If I had to choose, I would probably go with the Simmons but that is just because I am a light sleeper and Simmons offers motion separation to keep me from feel my wife’s incessant tossing and turning. If that isn’t an issue for you, then generally speaking, you will get a longer lifespan from a king size Sealy due to their incredibly durable innerspring system. But again, both are great manufacturers and carry the same 10 year warranty.

I hope this helped answer your questions, but if you would like to speak with a member of our sales team, please feel free to contact us by dialing 1 800 455 1052.

Simmons Cape Horn

July 1, 2009

From Jack -
At the MattressFirm, the tag on the Cape Horn model says “plush firm”. Do you know exactly which model matches this?

Hi Jack,
Yes, that would be the Lusaka Plush firm.

Latex Allergy

July 1, 2009

From Elena -
I am allergic to natural latex… is this compound in mattresses??

Hi Elena,
The latex that is used in mattresses goes through a process in which it is washed with soap and water, this strips the “touch sensitive” impurities that some people are allergic to.

However, if you’re still nervous about latex allergies, there are plenty of mattresses which don’t feature any latex. You can call us at 1-800-455-1052 to speak with a mattress expert and they can tell you exactly what’s in each mattress.

Stearns and Foster Hamilton Mattress

July 1, 2009

From Fabio -
we have a stearns and foster hamilton mattress that is over 15 years old, what would be the new equivalent mattress?

Hi Fabio,
That mattress has long been discontinued and there is nothing like it any longer.

My recommendation is for you to visit some local mattress retail stores that carry the Current Stearns and Foster models.

Try them out and give us a call back, we should be able to save you some money.

Wallbed Recommendation

July 1, 2009

From Donald -
I am having a Queen sized folding wallbed installed. The folding mechanism and cabinet accommodates both a mattress and box spring. I want to purchase a very high quality, very firm name brand mattress, prefer non-pillowtop. The following criteria are what need to be met to work with the wall bed:

• the maximum height combined that the box spring and mattress can be is 17″.
• the total weight combined that the box spring and mattress can be is 142lbs.

do you have any product recommendations you can make based upon this information? Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Hi Donald,
You have a few options based on your specifications:
You would definitely need to do the low profile box spring which is 5 1/4″ tall vs. the 9″ box spring. As far as the mattress goes you are then limited to 11.75″ or thinner.

I would recommend either the Sealy Posturepedic Eaglewood Cushion Firm or the Bryant Park Firm.

Oakmont Plush – Old Mattress Lineup

July 1, 2009

From Dom -
I was looking for the style – Oakmont Plush (Queen) which a family member purchased in 2006 and want the same exact mattress … I do not see that style listed anywhere now… I did find an inquiry where someone else was looking for it and a mattress pro sent a response that the closest match is the Cunningham Plush, however, that Q&A was from 2005. I don’t see that listed anywhere either. Can u help?

Hi Dom,

There are a couple issues;
1) All stores have different names for the mattresses to make it difficult for consumer’s to comparison shop. Which means our store has never sold a Simmons mattress under the name “Oakmont”.
2) Every year the mattress companies discontinue their old line of mattresses and come out with a new line. Which means there isn’t a replacement mattress for the Oakmont because they dont replace one model with another, they come out with a completely new line with different foam layers, coil counts, etc.

I am sorry to be the barer of bad tidings, but you will need to start fresh with your new mattress purchase. You may be able to find a mattress that feels some what similar to the one you own, in a “Plush”comfort, but not the same.

Simmons Rozelle

July 1, 2009

From Dan -
Do you carry the Rozelle World Class Plush Pillowtop?

Hi Dan,
Yes, we do. We have it under the name Simmons Beautyrest World Class Prague. You can get it as either the Prague Visco Latex Firm Super Pillowtop or the Prague Visco Latex Plush Super Pillowtop.

Mattress under 8 inches

July 1, 2009

From Howard -
I am looking for a Full and a twin 8” mattress (mattress only, not set) suitable for loft beds. The depth can’t be more than 8” for safety. The firmness is optional but something closer to medium would be nice. One is for an adult-sized teenager, one for a kid.

Do you have anything that fist the bill?

Hi Howard,
If you are interested in a mattress that meets an 8” requirement, I can recommend the Sealy Verda Cushion Firm. Another option would be the Simmons Slumbertime Evening Star Plush. The Simmons mattress will offer better support, and a longer comfort life than the Sealy Verda, and comes with a 10 year warranty against defects; the Verda features a 3 year warranty.

Bed Frame Details

July 1, 2009

From Huiqiang -
I’m ready to buy your mattress “Simmons Beautyrest World Class Lusaka Visco Extra Firm King Mattress Only”. In your website, I can choose frame when I buy the mattress. Could you tell me what kind of frame you provide?

Hi Huiqiang,
The frame with that is available is a metal bed frame with 6 legs and wheels. If you purchase this mattress and frame, you will need to use it with a box spring as well.

Simmons Southlands Plush

July 1, 2009

From Tom -
We are looking at a King size Simmons Beautyrest World Class mattress that Walmart sells under the name Southlands Plush. We like that this mattress has latex and no memory foam, however we do not like that this set only comes with the 9″ foundation. What set do you have that is comparable to this mattress in features and cost but is available with the low profile foundation?

Hi Thomas,

The only set that we have that compares to the Southland is the Simmons Beautyrest Worldclass Monrovia latex plush. It is available with a low profile foundation.
