Simmons Carter

July 31, 2009

From Sharon -
Do you carry the following mattress set I saw at Schwell’s Furniture: Simmons World Class Plush firm “Carter”?

Hi Sharon,
The Simmons Beautyrest Carter is coming back as a Classic model, not a World Class. When I ran a search, it came back as the same model as the Simmons Beautyrest Cairo on our website.

Do you have an equivalent for the Simmons Beautyrest Gladestone Falls Pillow Top? I believe it’s a Classic

Hi Janis,
The Gladestone is known as the Simmons Beautyrest Classic Gabarone on our website.

The Name Game

July 29, 2009

Mattress manufacturers routinely change names between stores to make it harder for you to comparison shop. However, don’t let that stop you. Ask the sales person for more information about the mattress you’re interested in. Take a pen and some paper with you and ask the number of coils in the mattress, mattress height without boxspring, and if the mattress contains any Visco memory foam or Latex; your local retailer
should have this information on file.
With those little tidbits, you’ll be able to match just about any mattress online or in store by yourself. If you need more help, sometimes names are well known enough that we can match with just that information. Give us a call at 1-800-455-1052 and we can try to help. If there isn’t an exact match, there may be one similar enough that can still save you hundreds of dollars.

Headboard Only Options

July 29, 2009

From Viktor -
I would like to ask for some assistance. I purchased a Sterns & Foster Mattress from us-mattress.com about a year ago. The mattress came along with a premium metal bed frame (looks like it’s made by Sealy).

I would like to purchase a wood headboard soon. My question is will most of the headboards sold in the U.S. fit this bed frame? Do you know of some wood headboards that will fit OK?

Hi Viktor,
Thank you for your purchase. The frame that you have has a bracket that will attach to most standard headboards, and is universal. Any of the headboards we have listed on our site will fit this frame. Most of the beds that we have listed are available as a headboard only, if you scroll to the bottom of the page that the complete bed is on. All of the items that are listed as headboard only do not come with hardware for attaching to an existing frame. You will be able to get the appropriate hardware for your frame and headboard at any hardware store

Sealy Hope Mills for a Youth

July 28, 2009

From Jeanne -
I am a repeat customer, My husband and I ordered a Sealy Signature Greenhurst last year. I am looking at the full sized mattresses for my son.

I want a great mattress with lots of support, as he will be a full sized young man. But, I am interested in a lower priced Mattress. We can’t spend a small fortune.

Do you recommend this Sealy Hope Mills? They seem to have the better Sealy coils (640 14 guage posturetech coils), at a more reasonable price. Or, do you have any other recommendations?

My question about these two Sealy Hope Mills mattresses:
It is hard to determine whether to order the Firm or the Cushion Firm.
They both have similar layers of cushioning. But, with different materials.

Which mattress has the longer lasting, most supportive cushioning layers.

Hi Jeanne,
The Hope Mills is a great mattress, one that our customers have been very happy with, offers great support, and one that I can highly recommend. Depending on the age of your son, I would recommend the cushion firm over the firm as a mattress that is too firm can throw off spinal alignment in young adults who are younger than 10 years old. Cushion firms provide excellent support while simultaneously offering a bit of cushion to properly contour your lower back.

Memory Foam Mattress Pad

July 27, 2009

From Deborah -
I love my 11 inch King Size True Foam Mattress though it does seem a little tough on my shoulders when I sleep on my side.

My question though is: What can I do to keep the fitted sheet and mattress pad on the mattress. I’ve tried two different mattress pads and have given up on them. As far as the sheets go, I’ve tried suspender systems; I’ve now added elastic loops to the bottom of one side of the fitted sheet and correspondent buttons on the mattress cover, yet the tension remains.

What do you recommend as a mattress pad?

What sheets do you recommend?

Where can I find them and how much do they run?

Your advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Deborah,
For sheets we recommend a very deep pocket sheet like the 400 thread count Sealy sheets that we offer on our website. As for the mattress pad we do not recommend the use of a mattress pad at all.

Adding a mattress pad to a memory foam mattress changes the way the mattress sleeps. Memory foam reacts uses body heat to contour to your body. When you add a mattress pad the pad will absorb your body heat and reduce the amount of contouring the mattress will do. The manufacturers of memory foam mattresses realize this and will still honor a warranty if there is a stain on the mattress. That is also why the cover on your mattress is removable and washable for sanitary reasons. I hope I answered your questions to your satisfaction.

Sherman Oaks compared to Serta Hotel

July 26, 2009

From George -
We stayed at the Ritz Carrolton Hotel in Pasadena, CA, and really enjoyed the comfort of their pillowtop mattress. We see from your website that they would likely have the Serta Perfect Sleeper Sapphire Suite Pillowtop. How does the Sealy “Signature” Sherman Oaks Luxury Plush Super Box Top compare with this hotel Serta?

Hi George,
The Sherman Oaks by Sealy has a Luxury Plush Super Box Top.
It is considered to be a very soft mattress with a comfort scale of 8.5.
It is a one sided mattress so it can not be flipped.
It contains a couple of layers of latex and memory foam, which are the highest end foams in the mattress industry.

The Serta Hotel Mattress called the Sapphire Suite Pillowtop is a semi soft mattress, not as soft as the Sherman Oaks.
It is a double sided mattress, which means it can be flipped and rotated.
It does not contain any premium foam layers such as Latex or Memory Foam.

The coil systems are similar – they both use a continuous coil.
The coil count is similar – the Sealy count is 782 and Serta’s is 800.
However, Sealy’s coil is bigger and thicker.
The coil gauge (thickness) is stronger in the Sealy at 14 vs the Serta has a 14 3/4 gauge, which is a little softer.

Stearns & Foster Recommendations

July 25, 2009

From Eliot -
May I get some advice please? We have a queen S&F Ellastone cushion firm that we purchased from you in 11/05. It was comfortable for the first few years, but over the past couple of years as I’ve aged (now 55 yrs) I’ve started to find it less comfortable. I have chronic sacro-iliac pain and sleeping directly on the mattress aggravates it. Also, I find that a pressure point forms under my hip (I’m a side-sleeper) and I wake up with pain there too. Too alleviate these problems we purchased a 2 inch, 4 lb visco foam topper one
year ago. This helped for the first 8 months or so, but no longer. We’re now in a situation where if we sleep directly on top of the topper, my back hurts. If we put a thick wool mattress pad over the topper, or remove the topper, then the hip pressure pain returns!

All this has my wife and me thinking that perhaps it’s time to think about replacing the mattress, and it is on this question that I’d appreciate your advice. It seems like we need more surface cushioning while still having a firm enough mattress for good back support. Does this mean that we’d should be looking at medium firm/plush mattresses? If so, do you have any specific recommendations for mattresses that would be friendly to both my SI pain and hip pressure issue? A good night’s sleep is worth the price, so we’re willing to spend a reasonble amount.

Thanks for any advice. I’ve enjoyed working with you in the purchase of the two beds we’ve bought from you and would certainly order from you if a new mattress is the best solution for us.

Hi Eliot,
I would recommend going to either an Ultra Plush or a Pillowtop model to alleviate the hip pain you are experiencing. You are right, as a person gets older in age they most often start to experience sensitivity to pressure in the hips, lower back, and/or shoulders.

This is caused by a mattress that is too firm in comfort. While adding the Visco Memory Foam Topper can sometimes alleviate this pain, often times the Memory Foam is quite firm itself, and not soft enough to make a difference. A Latex Topper can be a better solution.

I would recommend either purchasing a soft Latex Topper or check out some Stearns & Foster Ultra Plush or Pillowtop models.

Here are some topper recommendations: Natura Classic Talalay Latex Topper and the Natura Ultimate Natura Talalay Latex Topper.

And these are Stearns and Foster recommendations: Stearns & Foster Julianne Ultra Plush Mattress Set, Stearns & Foster Strasbourg Park Ultra Plush Euro Pillowtop Mattress Set and the Stearns & Foster Lemieux Ultra Plush Euro Pillowtop Mattress Set.

Serta Reawaken too soft

July 24, 2009

From Bridget -
I received my King Serta Perfect Day Reawaken Pillow Soft Mattress Set on May 1 and after 6 weeks there is no denying that it is way too soft for my comfort level.

My dilemma is, what do I exchange it for? My husband and I tried out many beds in stores before we ended up buying online. However, we could never find the same names/models numbers when we looked online. I knew I wanted a Serta Perfect Day because I tried out several in person.

It seems that mattresses are sold under many different names. How can I cross reference a mattress I found in a store with one you carry? Is there some secret to doing this or are the beds sold online different from the beds sold in stores?

Hi Bridget,
My initial thought when you said the Reawaken Pillowsoft is too soft for you is to go to the Reawaken Firm. There is quite a difference in comfort between the two models the Firm is a 2 on the Comfort Scale and the Pillowsoft is a 6.5.

Your other option would be to go with a Firm Euro Top such as the Enlivenment Firm Euro Top which is a 3 on the Comfort Scale.

As far as figuring out which model on our website is the same as the model you tried, you would have to get the specs on the mattress. Meaning how many coils are in it, what kind of foam layers are in the surface, is it a firm, pillowsoft, Plush Euro top, Firm Pillowtop, etc.
