Mattress Measurements

May 11, 2009

From Talat in NJ -
I got my mattress yesterday.  And it seems that the Torrey’s peak Extra Firm which is supposed to be 9″ is only 7 1/2″. Is this a mistake?

Hi Talat,
When a mattress is measured, the manufacturer measures to the crown of the mattress.  They do not measure to the tape edge (major seam on bottom and top edges of the mattress).  Also there is a 1″ variance on mattress thickness.  This means that if the manufacturer lists a mattress as 9″ inches it can come to you anywhere between 8″ – 10″ inches thick.  I hope this explanation answers your concerns.
